Chan, 27, has been busy this week too — she graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco on Monday.

Duchess Kate put on her finery this afternoon to attend The Queen’s Jubilee lunch at Windsor Castle.

Careful not to upstage the monarch, Kate kept her styling relatively low-key, in an elegant blush pink pleated Emilia Wickstead coat dress (fast becoming her style staple) with a pair of square-toe satin heels.

DARREN BENT STICKING WITH VILLA

Darren Bent: Wants to stay at VillaDarren Bent has pledged his commitment to Aston Villa and revealed a determination to get behind the new manager when he is appointed.

The 28-year-old, who missed the last three months of the season after rupturing ankle ligaments, was linked with a move away in January.

Villa struggled in the absence of Bent, who scored 11 goals, and a 16th-place finish just two points above the drop zone cost manager Alex McLeish his job after just one season in charge.

Bent, whose injury cost him a chance of making England’s Euro 2012 squad, had to watch from the sidelines as the club had their worst campaign in six years and returned their lowest points total (38) in 42 years.

But despite the upheaval this season which saw key players depart he remains committed to the club he joined in January 2011.

“People have asked if I was mis-sold the dream when I signed and if I’m honest I didn’t think Ashley Young and Stewart Downing would leave in the same summer,” he told the Birmingham Mail.

“But I signed for Aston Villa because I wanted to be here and I still do.

“I was linked with a transfer out of here all through January and I didn’t want that then and I don’t want that now.

“It’s not been a great season but this is a massive club and we’ve got to make sure it is a blip that doesn’t happen again.

“It is still a time of transition and we need to do our best to get behind the new manager.”

McLeish faced a wall of opposition from fans having been appointed from city rivals Birmingham last summer, and when the club was dragged into a relegation battle the criticism worsened.

Bent felt the Scot would get longer to make his mark at Villa Park but owner Randy Lerner had other ideas.

“Whenever a manager leaves you are always a bit surprised and I thought he would get another year if I’m honest,” he added.

“Considering the players we lost it was always going to be a tough season but nobody expected it to be quite this tough.

“We probably lost half our team from last season, Brad Friedel, Kyle Walker, Luke Young, Nigel Reo-Coker, Stewart Downing and Ashley Young, so that was always going to have an effect.”

In a strange way, Bent feels McLeish’s sacking may have come as something of a relief to the former Birmingham manager.

“The manager wouldn’t admit it, I’m sure, but maybe it’s a bit of a relief to him after the fans’ reaction,” he said.

“Aston Villa fans aren’t used to seeing this football club in this position and you can understand why they have got frustrated.

“When they see us down there in the table they will get annoyed and obviously the Birmingham thing didn’t help either.

“But it’s all about results and Aston Villa and relegation shouldn’t even be in the same sentence.

“The players must take responsibility too, including me.

“Managers always get the brunt of the criticism because they make the decisions but, collectively, we haven’t done well enough over the season.”

LA Lakers and David Beckham Visit White House

David Beckham proved himself a good sport when US President Barack Obama jokingly tackled him about his age and his line of underwear.

Obama: Approved of Beckham's line of underwear

Beckham and his LA Galaxy team-mates were visiting the White House to celebrate winning the Major League Cup last year.

Obama joked that the 37-year-old former England captain was the “young up and comer on the team” and that “half his team mates could be his kids.”

“We’re getting old, David, though you’re holding up better than me,” added the President.

“Last year, at the age of 35, David had his best year at MLS, leading the team with 15 assists.

“He did it despite fracturing his spine halfway through the season, injuring his hamstring a week before the championship game.

“He is tough. In fact, it’s a rare man who can be that tough on the field and also have his own line of underwear. David Beckham is that man.”

Villa Eyeing Swift Appointment

Lambert & Martinez: Heavily linked with Villa job

Aston Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner says the club want to appoint a new manager quickly and are seeking a candidate who can lead them back into European contention next season.

The club showed Alex McLeish the door on Monday after a disappointing campaign which saw the Midlanders narrowly sidestep Premier League relegation, finishing 16th.

American chairman Randy Lerner is expected at the club on Wednesday to accelerate the manager hunt, with several candidates having already been linked with the vacant job, including Norwich boss Paul Lambert and Wigan’s Roberto Martinez.

Faulkner claims whoever Villa bring in should be aiming for a European place next season and wants a new appointment made as soon as possible.

“Obviously we made a decision very quickly at the end of the season on Alex, so now our aim is to bring somebody in as soon as we can,” he said.

“We don’t want to hang around now.”

Faulkner added: “We’re looking to go into next season and be…in there challenging. We should be in that top half of the table and fighting for the European places. Why not?”

The Villa chief feels the vacant post is an attractive prospect for any manager and wants a new boss who can inspire “vibrancy” in their style of play.

“I think we want to find someone who can reinvigorate the club, someone who can bring some vibrancy back to Villa,” he added.

“That’s what we need and that’s what we can get. You want someone who can inspire the players, inspire the fans and deliver on the pitch.

“There’s an awful lot of reasons you would want to come to Aston Villa.

“You look at the size of the club, you look at the infrastructure that we have here, both the facility at the training ground and our academy (are among) the best in the country.

“Our stadium is one of the best in the country; we have a fantastic owner who loves the club and has supported his managers, the club’s history, the fans are phenomenal. Why would you not want to come here?”

Holly Valance Bridal Wear at Charity Fundraiser

Holly Valance wore a distinctly bridal-inspired gown as she and fiance Nick Candy arrived at Claridge’s in London for a fundraising dinner on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Care on Monday night.

The actress-turned-singer’s look reminded us ever so slightly of Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress Of The Century with its long-sleeved laciness, but we’re pretty sure the Duchess of Cambridge would have drawn the line at the knuckleduster clutch bag…

Madeline McCann ‘Dead’

Derek Acorah, who claimed Madeleine McCann is deadPA
The parents of missing Madeleine McCann are reportedly ‘sickened’ by claims made by TV psychic Derek Acorah that she is dead.

The ‘medium’ says he was sent a message from the spirit world telling him “she’s not on this earth any more”.

Acorah then went even further with his claims by saying that Madeleine died years ago but will soon be reincarnated.

The Sun reports that a source close to Kate and Gerry said they were ‘sickened’ by 62-year-old Acorah’s claims, branding him a self-publicist, and adding “it’s incredibly distasteful and insensitive.”

Acorah was spouting his nonsense as he promoted his latest tour – just weeks after the McCanns marked the anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance.

He said: “I know her parents are convinced Maddie is alive and I’m really sorry – but the little one has been over in the spirit world for some time.

“I don’t think she’ll be there long before she reincarnates.

“When children pass over who haven’t had full lives I believe they choose the time to come back in the same form again – as another little girl.”

He denied that he had set out to offend or upset the McCanns and was surprised that his comments had caused distress: “I was only making those statements to explain why I didn’t go to Portugal,” he said, “I would hate to offend or upset the McCanns as a parent myself.”

Derek has since taken to Twitter to deny ‘cashing in’ on Madeleine’s disappearance, saying: “I totally refute the article that had appeared in a newspaper today. I am not so sad that I have to cash in on somebody else’s misery!”

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West at Basketball Game

Kim and Kanye (and what point to we get to start calling them Kimye?) enjoyed a very public date night over the weekend, with front row seats at a basketball game.

For most people, this would be a chance to enjoy some downtime in more casual attire, but as we well know, Kim Kardashian is not ‘most people’…

The reality TV starlet instead decided to squeeze into one of the most binding dresses we’ve seen in a while, and team it with some totally impractical but really quite fabulous footwear.

The pair were the very definition of a PDA – all giggling, whispering and snuggling – Kim and her teeny tiny zip-front leather dress well and truly kept Kanye’s attention throughout the game (LA Lakers Vs Denver Nuggets, FYI.)

Shame the sporting action didn’t seem to hold Kim’s attention quite so well.

Lady Gaga Engaged ?

Is this Lady Gaga's engagement ring?Lady Gaga’s engagement ring? Photo: Facebook/Lady Gaga

The wedding rumour mill has gone into overdrive after Lady Gaga posted a picture on Facebook of a whopping diamond ring on her engagement finger.

The singer is obviously head over heels for beau Taylor Kinney, who starred in The Vampire Diaries and Gaga’s video for You and I.

Reports recently suggested Taylor was seen shopping for a ring in Chicago, although sources said he made mention of a “promise ring”.

So is this an engagement sparkler, or a just a “promise” that the pair are committed to each other? Judging by Gaga’s enormous smile, we’re currently guessing the former.
